FACTA Disposal Rule Receiving National Exposure

Local Company has already responded to the Demand for Shredding Services

Wednesday, June 1, 2005, the new FACTA Disposal Rule, went into effect stating “any person and/or business who maintains or otherwise possesses consumer information for a business purpose must properly dispose of such information using reasonable measures to protect against unauthorized access to or use of the information in connection with its disposal,” thereby reducing the risk of consumer fraud and identity theft. The new FACTA disposal rule highlights, the need for secure destruction services, while insuring that proper document destruction is performed as an important consumer protection service.

Bayaud Industries Document Destruction Services knew about this pending legislation last October and, has developed a secure chain of custody for document destruction in the Denver Metro area. At Bayaud, we pride ourselves on being a non-profit organization providing job training and employment opportunities for persons with severe disabilities. Additionally Bayaud acts as a resource for your business; providing up-to-date information on legislation like FACTA and the legal documentation to demonstrate the shredding of your materials should you ever have to prove to a third party that it occurred.

Demand is increasing for secure shredding services. Businesses like yours are beginning to understand the need to protect their customers’ information in addition to their company’s competitive secrets and personnel information. Identify theft is the fastest-growing crime in the United States and FACTA is the latest in a continuing stream of laws designed to eradicate this problem.

Dumpsters are no longer an option. FACTA states that businesses are required to make sure that discarded consumer information “cannot practicably be read or reconstructed.” FACTA’s “reasonable measures” include destroying documents through shredding, burning, or pulverizing and monitoring the destruction process. Bayaud’s purpose is to protect confidential information through the secure destruction of private and proprietary documents and also create jobs for people with severe disabilities in the process.
